Defining Things

What is a chair?

Sometimes, a seat with 3 legs is a stool. But it can be a chair too.

A chair can have even more legs than four.

So what is a chair?

A place to sit?

Is a stool a chair?

Does it matter?

Sometimes, by defining things, we limit our understanding of what they are. It seems convenient to define things sometimes, but it can threaten our ability to truly understand them. Once we learn the definition of something, we stop observing it with curiosity. When our curiosity of things diminishes, our interest fades.

Have you defined your products and services too rigidly? Might there be other uses for it? Might there be other markets?
