Some big problems seem to beg for a big, strong response – a hard kick or even (as the video below illustrates) a large explosion. Unfortunately, when you try to resolve big problems with too much brawn and not enough brain; things often snap, break apart, splatter and make things worse. It’s like stepping on an ant hill to get rid of ants.
I was reminded of this recently when I tried to use a mallet to align a cabinet door without first taking it off its hinges. Of course, after hammering away, the hinges bent, the whole thing went wonky and the whole door needed to be replaced eventually.
Have you had any whale problems which you handled with force rather than intelligence? How did it work out for you?
