GroupMail Log Files Tell a Story

You’ve been sending your GroupMail campaigns successfully for a while now. Today though, things don’t go so smoothly. Your GroupMail delivery report reads:

To understand what went wrong, you can look at the log file of the message sent. Luckily, it’s easy to do in GroupMail. Just go to your Sent Messages folder and right click on the message that had delivery issues.

Click on View Logs and select the log file that you want to analyze. The General Status Log contains all available information about the message in question.

Click to View the log file selected. Because log file language can be complicated to understand at first, copy the log file text for the message in question and paste it into an email to the GroupMail Support Team. They will be able to analyze the log file for you and explain what happened and how to resolve it.

In the case above, the user authentication for the account I was sending from changed and I hadn’t yet changed my GroupMail account settings to reflect those SMTP Authentication changes. For an explanation of some of the more common Error messages that emailers are faced with, read My messages will not send – they all fail, what do I do?

If you ran a campaign that had some errors, but don’t understand what caused them, please send the General Status Log as an attachment to an email to support (at) infacta (dot) com. Our technical support team will be able to analyze your log file and determine what caused the problem.

What story do your log files tell?

Hi Carl. When a message is sent, the log files are stored locally under the User Account. Your GroupMail Logs Folder is stored under C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Infacta\Group Mail\Logs

You can you open the log files from here if you wish.

    All the best

Hello. Is there any way to access these log files on disk? Or, are they created when I click “view logs.”

Thanks for chiming in Paul. I also see the word ‘free’ in the subject line. This is one of those words that email and ISP spam filters take particular notice of. To maximize delivery of your email, consider using a spam checker before sending your email out. Below are some good links to content checker available online. This is normally a free service.

I echo Paul’s thanks for using our support desk, but am glad that you used the blog as well. It’s a great example for other users to see. Feel free to use the GroupMail User Forum as well. You can start your own topic or just follow other discussions at http://www.messagingtimes.com/forum

    All the best

    Hi Fannie,

Thank you for sending in that support request to GroupMail support also.

Have your Email’s arrived in their Junk Folder or are their spam filters blocking your Email?

I also see that you are using a local mail server to send your Email, as you are using “localhost”. This may be where your issue lies as GroupMail will be sending the mail to a folder on your PC and will say delivered, but your local mail server may not be sending these out from your PC. What mail server software are you using on your PC?

Can you send mail if you us the Standard Send Mode in GroupMail and configure it with your ISP’s mail server?
The article below will help you configure a Send Mode:

    Best regards,
    Paul.
